Insurance, Fees & Superbills

Everything you need to know about our rates, policies, and navigating out-of-network insurance benefits.

Insurance Coverage.

Brooklyn Qi accepts Aetna and Northwell Insurance, or if your insurance is a PPO and allows for out of network care, we may accept it. Send us a copy of your insurance card and we can let you know about your benefits.

How to Get Reimbursed.

If your health insurance plan includes Out-of-Network acupuncture benefits, you may be eligible for partial or full reimbursement.

Upon request, we will provide you with a Superbill—a specialized medical receipt containing the exact diagnostic (ICD-10) and procedural (CPT) codes your insurance company requires. You submit this document directly to your provider, and they will mail the reimbursement check directly to you based on your plan's coverage rates.

Tip: We recommend calling your insurance provider before your first visit to ask: "Do I have out-of-network acupuncture benefits, and is my specific condition covered?"

Respecting Time.

When you book a session, that time is reserved exclusively for you. If you need to cancel or reschedule, we require a minimum of 24 hours' notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments, will be charged the full session fee.

Common Questions

What is a superbill and how do I use it?

A superbill is an itemized medical receipt containing the ICD-10 diagnostic codes and CPT procedural codes your insurance company requires to process an out-of-network reimbursement claim. Brooklyn Qi will provide one on request after each session. You submit it directly to your insurance provider — typically via their member portal or by mail — and they issue reimbursement directly to you based on your plan's out-of-network benefit rate and your remaining deductible.

How do I find out if my plan covers acupuncture?

Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask: "Do I have out-of-network acupuncture benefits, and what is my reimbursement rate?" Also ask whether your specific diagnosis or condition is covered and whether a referral or prior authorization is required. Having this information before your first session will make the reimbursement process significantly smoother.

Does Medicare cover acupuncture?

Medicare covers up to 12 acupuncture sessions per year for chronic low back pain, with an additional 8 sessions available if clinical improvement is documented. Coverage is limited to this specific indication. Brooklyn Qi can provide the appropriate documentation for Medicare reimbursement requests for qualifying patients.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require a minimum of 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments without notice, are charged the full session fee. We understand that life is unpredictable — if something unexpected arises, please contact us as early as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you.
